Ok, I know you want some comment on the text...but just got a couple of things to say about the fish...I agree with 'Phil' on the fin thing...some color on the fins would be great although looking at it now...seems you've already done that. Just that it's so subtle I didn't notice it at first, maybe too subtle? ...and as for the scales...maybe have them go a little more with the 'flow' of the fish?
Now to the text...color scheme...I'm thinkin'...green...ish...stuff...I actually really like the notebook lines so...it would be great if you could preserve them somehow, at least partially.
